Castle Stuart Golf Links

The Carnegie Club - Skibo Castle

Scotland, Highlands, Dornoch
5.7 (6)
Course Opened: 1995

In Volume 1 of The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak published that.

“Developed from Andrew Carnegie’s old highland estate, Skibo is the most expensive course in Scotland, which is just another reason to skip it in favor of another round at Dornoch or Brora. The Carnegie mansion is spectacular [though it’s so ridiculously posh that I could never feel comfortable there], but the golf is relatively bland – a minimalist design on a property not blessed with great natural undulations. Ran reflects more fondly on the property’s diversity including its lichen heath and lochs. The one shot 6th from dune top to dune top and the dogleg right eleventh around the Loch are two of his favorites. Also, work has been done since my one and only visit and I understand that the twelfth green which now hugs Loch Evelix is an improvement.”

The Carnegie Course at Skibo Castle received a score of 5 out of 10 from Tom Doak, and scores of 4 and 7 from two of his co-authors.
