Canada’s most awarded modern architect, Thomas McBroom has built a number of eye-catching golf courses across the country during a career that has now lasted more than 20 years.

While there is no doubt McBroom knows how to build good golf holes, a few of his more successful creations do have their issues. Beacon Hall is one such example, the layout tightly routed through an undulating forest but with only a couple of really interesting holes. Oviinbyrd is a better course primarily because of the greater design variety displayed, and the fact that the heroic holes tend to have alternate routes for those out of position or with weaker games. The Links at Crowbush Cove is another of his noted layouts, its sandy terrain ideal for windswept links-like golf and McBroom able to build some reasonably attractive holes and features. It’s not a great course by any means, but like Bell Bay, Rocky Crest, Port Carling and others it does show that McBroom is capable of delivering clients user-friendly, green and attractive golf courses that most players are sure to enjoy.
