Phoenix Park Country Club

South Korea, Gangwon
4.5 (6)
Designer: Jack Nicklaus
Course Opened:

With an opulent clubhouse, superior turf conditions and a very pleasant club environment, the Phoenix Park Country Club is a popular modern golf facility on the outskirts of Seoul.

The front nine here is typical of golf throughout the Seoul region, the holes staggered up, down and across the hilly terrain, and shaped with the signature Nicklaus bunkers and mounds. After a solid start, the gambling cross-creek 2nd is nice, the rest of the front side is ordinary, a pretty water par three about the only hole to recommend.

The back nine has much more water and is also built across flatter ground, with some decent design incorporated into the holes. The long par three 15th is very good, while the 16th and 18th, though far from original, are also fun to play. The same is true of the 11th, an almost reachable par four with a peninsula green. The blackspot on the back nine is clearly the 14th, a poor hole that promotes play away from a lake and toward an ugly right side fairway.
