St George's Hill

Hankley Common Golf Club

England, SE England, London & Heathlands, Surrey
5.8 (6)
Course Opened: 1897

In Volume 1 of  The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak published that.

“This course provokes mixed emotions. On the one hand, the club has the great fortune to own 600 plus acres and the golfer is treated to several hours of bliss in the gorgeous English countryside with heather stretching as far as the eye can see. The famous one shot 7th over a valley and Home hole with a green just beyond a sinister pit are exemplary. And yet … there is the nagging suspicion that there are a few too holes were the fairway runs too straight and too long without any bunkers to liven up the proceedings. Ultimately, the course lacks the strategic merit that Woking and Swinley Forest effortlessly ooze. A few diagonal cross hazards would do wonders here. If the strategy ever matched the setting, you could have a world beater.”

Hankley Common received a score of 5 out of 10 from Tom Doak, and a 6 from one of his co-authors.
