Taboo Resort Golf & Spa

Canada, Ontario, South Ontario, Toronto, Muskoka District
6 (6)
Designer: Ron Garl
Course Opened: 2002

Amidst the immaculate grooming, the elevation changes and dramatic use of rock, the Taboo in Ontario golf really is that the Muskoko district is a bit of a missed opportunity. There just aren’t as many great courses as you would expect out of such terrain, or from courses built with what appear generous budgets.

Ron Garl’s Taboo Resort is far from the worst here, and given its friendlier and more gently undulating terrain is actually among the most pleasant to play. His bunkering catches the eye, as do the emblematic Muskoka rock formations, which golfers hit over or into more than a dozen times during the round. Depending how you play the par five 18th, for example, you might hit all three shots over the rock.

Aside from the slightly cramped side-hill 10th hole, the longer par fours and early par threes are the pick of the holes. The rest sadly tend to blur into one another.
