Media Release:

Brandt Snedeker will contest the 2018 Emirates Australian Open.

The popular American, nine times a winner on the US PGA Tour and former Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup representative, this week confirmed he would play at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney from 15-18 November.

"I've always loved coming down to Australia and I'm really looking forward to spending some time in Sydney around the Open in November," Snedeker said.

"I know how much all the Aussies put into trying to win the Stonehaven Cup and I know it has an incredible honour roll, so I'd love to try to get my name on it, too."

Affectionately known around the golf world as “Sneds”, the jovial Tennesseean will play the Australian Open for the second time having finished as joint runner-up on his debut in 2007 at The Australian nearby, just one stroke behind champion Craig Parry.

The world No.50 has just finished another strong season on the PGA Tour, with four top-10 finishes, including his recent victory at the Wyndham Championship where he carded golf's magical 59 in the opening round.

Snedeker, 37, has been a fixture in the US tour's playoffs for years having won at least once in six of the past eight years, including the 2012 Tour Championship when he was also FedEx Cup champion. He reached a career-high No.4 after winning the 2013 Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

He has posted nine top-10 finishes in majors, including twice finishing third (2008 Masters and 2012 Open) and also has tasted success on the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia with victory at the 2016 Fiji International.

Golf Australia chief executive Stephen Pitt was delighted to have Snedeker return to Australia, especially after the recent announcement of Matt Kuchar also in the field.

"Brandt is always a pleasure to be around and has a legion of supporters because of his amiable, smiling nature, so I know there’ll be many happy fans with this news, especially given his great recent form," Pitt said.

"The Open is always a great sporting and social week and I encourage people to book their tickets early to ensure they won’t miss the action."

The Emirates Australian Open is supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.

The Emirates Australian Open is a flagship tournament on the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia. The winner will receive a minimum of 32 Official World Golf Ranking points.
