Avondale Golf Club

Australia, NSW, Sydney
6.2 (50)
Course Opened: 1926

Located in the leafy suburb of Pymble on Sydney's north shore, the Avondale Golf Club opened in 1926 on a golf course created by noted designer Eric Apperly. This immensely private club is noted for its tranquillity and peaceful bushland setting, and has enjoyed a ranking renaissance of sorts in recent years making a welcome return to Australia's Top 100 list in 2010. This was on the back of remodelling work undertaken by architect Ross Watson, which successfully improved the conditioning of the course and also tidied up some of the tired greens and bunkers.

Avondale differs from its North Sydney neighbors by having hard running couch fairways, and sand-flashed Sandbelt style bunkering across most of the course. There are few genuine standout holes here, but those who can forgive the right tree-lined fairways and the lack of real strategic interest in the greens and bunkers will enjoy one of North Sydney’s most pleasant golfing experiences.
