The world’s first Lee Westwood Golf Courses are now open at Close House. Lee Westwood has been involved in the design and renovation of the two 18 hole courses at Close House working with Scott Macpherson, Golf Course Architect, to further enhance the already established Championship standard course at Close House.
Lee Westwood, who finished 3rd in the US Open 2012 quoted; “I thoroughly enjoyed my day playing at the official celebrity-amateur opening at Close House and I am delighted to be their Official Tour Professional. I think Close House is a perfect members course that has the capability of staging a major tournament in years to come. For a brand new course it is in great condition. The greens are of a very high quality and I am looking forward to going back and playing it again”.
Owner of Close House, Graham Wylie quoted “the Directors and I are delighted to have Lee Westwood as our Attached Tour Pro. It is both an honour and a privilege to have a golfer of Lee’s stature representing Close House and is an endorsement to the course and facilities. This is great news for Close House and the North East of England“.
As Attached Tour Professional, Westwood’s management team announced that the Close House logo will appear on Westwood’s cap at every event, combined with an announcement on every tee of his relationship with the venue. He attended selected events in 2011, 2012 and will also be attending events in 2013.
The Par 71 Lee Westwood Colt Course measures 6813 yards and spans 160 acres of the Tyne Valley. Renowned golf course designer Scott MacPherson carefully planned the course around the existing well established trees, lakes and vegetation to fit with an intended old fashioned design. The course already looks mature and established. The venue is located 8.5 miles from Newcastle city centre and Newcastle International Airport.
