Vestman Island Golf Course

Iceland, Iceland
Designer:
Course Opened: 1938

The Vestmannaeyar golf course is located on one of the Vestman Islands which are group of islands of the south coast of Iceland.

The golf course is set in an old volcano, is a wonderful test of golf. Teeing off against a backdrop of volcanic walls; changing wind directions on the same hole and playing across and over the sea are all features of golf in Vestmannaeyjar. The course has a reputation for having the best greens in the country.

The golf course in Eyjar is one of the most famous in Iceland and has a huge attraction for golfers, both domestic and foreign. It is an important link in recreation for tourists and attracts many people to the Westman Islands every year. The course is located inside Herjólfsdalur but the natural beauty is one of the things that makes the course as beautiful as it is. The first 9 holes are located inside the valley where there are a lot of hills and hills, but the second 9 holes are by Hamarinn. They are therefore considered by many to be more difficult, but can both give and take.

Golf has always been a popular sport in the Westman Islands, which is best seen in the fact that over 10% of the population are registered members of the club. GV has always placed great emphasis on child and adolescent work and it is safe to say that this work has never been stronger than in recent years. GV was the first member of ÍBV to meet the requirements of ÍSÍ for a model company and the board is proud of the work that is done here on an annual basis with children and young people in the Westman Islands.

Golf World Magazine says:

‘Vestmannaeyjar’ requires a short ferry trip from the mainland... it is worth every metre of the journey, and combines an epic setting with some lovely links holes. Turnberry-esque in parts.
