San Domenico Golf

Italy, Puglia
5 (1)
Course Opened: 1996

A short drive from the popular Puglia tourist towns of Monopoly and Locorotondo, the San Domenico golf course occupies a prime slice of beachside land adjacent the Adriatic Sea. Though separated from the water by a coastal road, around 900 metres of the course runs along the Sea.

San Domenico was designed by European Golf Design in the 1990s, with Andy Haggar said to be the chief architect. The course has established itself as a tour destination for both the professionals and leading Amateurs, having hosted the Italian PGA, the National Amateur and the Finale of the European Challenge Tour. Our visit to San Domenico coincided with the 2025 European Legends Tour event, the course presented in excellent condition for the field with well kept fairways, and generously paced greens.

The back nine enjoys the best of the water views, but some of the bunkering and perched greens on the front nine are equally aesthetically pleasing. The finishing holes on both nines are tight and tricky, with narrow greens that are tucked beyond a soft dune ridge. Though sparsely vegetated, the old olive trees that dot the landscape are pleasant to play amongst, as are some of the native ground covers used to create separation or as part of tee carries.

Among our favourites holes, the strong par four 7th and 18th holes are well conceived, as are the short 11th and 13th holes both with attractive surrounds. The two shot 15th and par five 16th are particularly memorable for being the holes that run closest to the coastal road and Sea.
