Another course in the hills outside of Seoul, Midas Valley required heavy earthmoving to build as its holes are literally staggered up and down the steep terrain. The result is an awkward layout where holes continually lean one way or the other, and balls hit high side are fed back into the middle of the fairway. There are also lots of unfortunate internal out-of-bounds areas, the severity of the terrain forcing the club to insist that members and visitors play safely to the higher ground rather than flirt with their balls falling on lower fairways.
While the scenery here is pleasant enough, this is a very uninteresting course to play as you continually drive into the higher ground and watch your ball kick back to safety, then hit into rather tame green complexes. The par threes across water are a little cliché too, while about the only hole of interest is the 8th, which features a cavernous bunker short of the putting surface, the trap apparently the deepest in Korea.
Although the golf course at Midas Valley might not have much to recommend, the clubhouse and catering here is first class.
