A rather bizarre golfing experience, the Alhuarin golf course on the Costa del Sol was designed by Spanish legend Severiano Ballesteros and wedged between mountains on some of the most extreme golfing ground we have seen.

The design is likewise fairly extreme. Ballesteros has holes that bend hard against steep slopes and he built water hazards on the high side of angled fairways, with any balls flirting with danger feeding into the middle of the fairway anyway. There are also some fairly bizarre putting targets here, perhaps the reason being to help discover the next short-game wizard from these parts, but a number of greens actually border on the ridiculous.

One such oddity is the green you see on the drive into the course, set right beside the entrance road and built partway up a small hill. There seems no way that target could be part of a proper course, but in fact it is used on a par three course that Ballesteros also built here, the green really only playable when running about 2 or 3 on the stimpmeter
