Green Valley Golf Club

Thailand, Bangkok Area
5.3 (3)
Course Opened: 1988

Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, Green Valley Country Club is an unremarkable golf experience set amongst some of the poorer parts of Bangkok. Flat and mostly without feature, the site was enhanced by Jones and his team through the creation of a number of lakes, this fill not used to create interesting fairway shapes but instead line holes and greens with repetitive 1980s style mounding.

Like most courses in Thailand, the shaping and construction work here is pretty basic, the bunkers are flat and straightforward and the design likewise offers little new or exciting for those players who have seen RTJ II courses elsewhere. A few greens are well conceived, especially those without contrived putting shapes.

Easily the most interesting thing about Green Valley are the caddies, and the fact that many players here take three per round - one to carry the clubs, one to hold the umbrella and one to provide massages during the long waits on each tee. When groups are banked up on tees, which happens regularly, it's not uncommon to see 30 people standing around - 8 players and their caddies!
