Ever the salesman, Gary Player calls Saadiyat Beach Golf Course one of the very best in the world. We describe it as about as vanilla as golf gets, and utterly unremarkable. Great courses generally have great bunkers, and at Saadiyat Beach the traps are not only an odd mix of styles and shapes, they are completely overused throughout the round. Holes and vistas are often overwhelmed by sand, the large, shapeless traps with shallow lips and flat bases presenting little real challenge for good players but tormenting those who struggle from sand and giving virtually no alternate route to avoid them.
Further, there are some terrible forward tees on this course, including some where the angle forces shorter hitting women to either hit straight at the bunker on one side or bounce toward another on the other.
The course does get down near the beach in a couple of areas, and has a few decent outlooks, but you wouldn't choose to play golf at Saadiyat Beach if the area had another Yas Links or two.
