Engineers Golf Club

USA, New York, Long Island
6 (5)
Designer: Herbert Strong
Course Opened: 1918

In Volume 3 of The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak published that:

“Nothing at all like you’d expect from a course with a name like Engineers, this course has a bit of a cult following – you’ll either love it or hate it. The hilly property gives plenty of opportunity for creative shotmaking, but it’s the large and severely terraced greens that will leave the most lasting impression...you won’t find greens like them anywhere else. There are several strong candidates for list of the best, worst, and most unusual golf holes, but the signature hole is a part-timer – the 94-yard 14th, with a narrow fallaway green and death to both sides, christened the “Two or Twenty” hole back in the club’s heyday. This tiny hole has been abandoned for many years, but was reintroduced as part of an alternate configuration for the course.”

The Engineers Golf Club received a score of 6 out of 10 from Tom Doak, and a score of 6 out of 10 from one of his co-authors.
