Grand Cypress Golf Club - New Course

USA, Florida, Orlando
4.5 (4)
Designer: Jack Nicklaus
Course Opened: 1988

In Volume 2 of The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak published that.

“The New Course is one of Jack Nicklaus’ most unusual designs … but you can’t call it his most original, as nearly every hole mimics the basic strategy and key features of a counterpart on The Old Course at St. Andrews. It’s fascinating to see how Jack chose to change those famous holes [for example, setting up his Road hole with a left-to-right green makes it less intimidating than the original], but it’s more instructive to see how the lack of a firm playing surface robs the course of so much of its shotmaking imperative, and therefore its strategy. Also: the two “original” par-3 holes Jack built [since they wanted more than the two on The Old Course] are deadly dull. Save your pennies to go see the real thing.”

The New Course at the Grand Cypress Resort received a score of 5 out of 10 from Tom Doak and a score of 4 out of 10 from one of his co-authors.
