The Dunes Club

USA, Michigan, SE Michigan
6.8 (6)
Designer: Dick Nugent
Course Opened: 1990

Founded by Bandon Dunes visionary Mike Keiser, on a 90-acre woodland property close to the shores of Lake Michigan, the Dunes Club is a remarkable nine-hole layout that is carved through attractive pine-covered sand dunes and bears a striking resemblance to New Jersey’s Pine Valley. Like Pine Valley the holes feature long, nasty sandy waste areas, fierce greens, forced carries and island grass landing areas. Giving the nine its variety are creative and diverse putting contours and ingenious teeing grounds that give holes great elasticity and allow them to be played from different angles and different lengths.

With a wonderfully understated clubhouse and general atmospheric vibe, The Dunes is a unique golf club and very much loved by its appreciative membership. The course itself is full of great holes, and must rank with the short course at Morfontaine and England’s Royal Worlington & Newmarket as the finest 9-hole tracks on the planet.
