On May 26th 1887 Essex County Country Club in West Orange NJ was incorporated. ECCC thus became the FIRST country club in the state of NJ and the sixth club in the United States. The club has been the home to a prestigious membership which include Frelinghuysen, Merck, Pfizer, Chubb, Colgate and of course for 41 years, Thomas Edison. It is currently home to former Governor Richard Codey as well as NJ Devil great Martin Brodeur. It has also been host to numerous NJ and MGA golf events, hosted numerous famous golf professionals as well as visits from three US presidents.
As the oldest club in the state, Essex CCC is preparing to celebrate its 125th anniversary during calendar year 2012. Significant dates during the year will be the actual anniversary on May 26th, a “turn back the clock” golf event to be played during the golf season, and a “History Night” dinner in the fall. The highlight event will be during the club’s annual July fourth picnic which will include a special presentation with invited guests (celebrities and politicians) and will feature a fireworks presentation.
The club is eager to share its history and legacy with the general public, and we will work to keep users abreast throughout 2012 of celebrations as they occur.
