Media Release:

The spectacular backdrop of the Australian outback will continue to play host to the WA PGA Championship after the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder signed off on a five-year extension on the eve of the 2026 championship.

Kalgoorlie Golf Course has been the home of the WA PGA Championship since 2012, the extension of the tournament agreement making it one of the longest continuous host courses of any tournament on the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia.

Only the 30-year run of the Australian Masters at Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne surpasses the current 15-year stint of the WA PGA Championship at Kalgoorlie, a tenure that will reach its 20th year when the new agreement runs out in 2031.

This year’s field of 120 players boasts competitors from the United States, Canada, New Zealand and from throughout Australia, highlighting the growing profile of the championship on the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia.

“Our city has a reputation for staging world-class events that attract visitors from all over the world, and the WA PGA Championship has become an important part of our events calendar,” said City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayor, Glenn Wilson.

“Bringing high-quality professional golf to the region is not only a boost for tourism but gives our local community of passionate golfers the chance to watch, mix with and learn from some of the very best.

“Kalgoorlie Golf Course and the Goldfields Golf Club are among our city’s greatest assets, and the work of the turf team to maintain the course to such a high standard, together with the support of club members, is a credit to everyone involved.

“We’re thrilled that Kalgoorlie-Boulder will continue to be home to the WA PGA Championship for a further five years.”

Recent winners of the WA PGA Championship at Kalgoorlie Golf Course include Austin Bautista (2025), Jack Buchanan (2024), Ben Eccles (2023) and David Micheluzzi (2022), the WA PGA Championship itself dating back to 1933 with an honour roll boasting names such as Graham Marsh, Kel Nagle, Terry Gale, Peter Senior, Stephen Leaney and Brett Rumford.

Emphasising the important role that golf plays within the local Kalgoorlie-Boulder community, Kalgoorlie Golf Course was recently named the ‘Get Into Golf Venue of the Year’ at the 2026 Golf Australia National Awards of Excellence.

Led by PGA Professional Jemma Price through the Goldfields Golf Academy that she operates with husband and fellow PGA Professional Correy Price, Kalgoorlie Golf Course boasted one of the highest new-participant rates of any golf facility in Australia, with 76 per cent of its 167 Get Into Golf participants across 18 programs being genuine first-timers.

“Kalgoorlie is firmly established as one of the players’ favourite stops on Tour and we couldn’t be happier that it will remain the home of the WA PGA Championship for another five years,” said Tour Development Manager for the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia, Kim Felton.

“The Kalgoorlie-Boulder community continues to get behind this great event and its world-class golf course.

“We look forward to continuing to grow the championship together over the coming years.

“Great golf courses produce great champions, and the list of winners in recent years highlights the quality of players who have risen to the top at the Kalgoorlie Golf Course.”
