Ortiz brings international pedigree to BMW Australian PGA Championship

Carlos Ortiz will bring his wealth of international experience to Sydney, with the multiple worldwide winner confirmed for the 2026 BMW Australian PGA Championship at The Lakes Golf Club from November 26-29.

The 35-year-old Mexican has established himself as one of the leading players from Latin America over the past decade, winning on the PGA Tour before becoming a regular contender on LIV Golf.

Ortiz broke through for his first PGA Tour victory at the 2020 Houston Open, becoming the first Mexican player in 42 years to win on the world’s No.1 tour. He went on to record 12 PGA TOUR top-10 finishes.

Since joining LIV Golf in 2022, Ortiz has recorded 15 top-10 finishes across his four seasons and finishing inside the league's top 15 in each of his first four full seasons.

He claimed his first LIV Golf individual title at LIV Golf Houston in 2024, shooting 15-under par to defeat Adrian Meronk by one stroke.

Ortiz then produced the best major championship result of his career in 2025, finishing tied fourth at the US Open at Oakmont — the best-ever U.S. Open finish by a Mexican player. He also won the International Series Macau later that year.

That form has continued into 2026, with Ortiz recording top-10 finishes at LIV Golf Hong Kong and LIV Golf South Africa, including a sixth-place finish in Hong Kong and eighth in South Africa.

PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman said Ortiz's international credentials would be a major attraction when the BMW Australian PGA Championship returns to Sydney.

“Carlos is a proven winner at the highest level and we're delighted to have him confirmed for the BMW Australian PGA Championship,” Kirkman said.

“He's won on the PGA Tour, he's won on LIV Golf and he's consistently competed at the top end of some of the biggest tournaments in world golf.

“His fourth-place finish at the U.S. Open last year was a terrific performance and his results on LIV Golf this year show that he's continuing to play some outstanding golf.

“Having a player of Carlos's experience and quality at The Lakes will be a real boost for the championship and for golf fans in Sydney.”

Ortiz said he was looking forward to returning to Australia and taking on The Lakes.

“I've really enjoyed playing in Australia and I'm excited to come back for the BMW Australian PGA,” Ortiz said.

“The Lakes is a great golf course and it will be a new challenge for me. I'm looking forward to getting there, competing against a strong field in front of all the Sydney fans and trying to win in Australia for the first time.”

Ortiz joins a field that includes leading Australians Adam Scott, Cam Smith, Lucas Herbert, Elvis Smylie and Cam Davis, as well as international visitors Corey Conners, Daniel Hillier and Josele Ballester.
