Media Release:

Willunga Golf Course will again take centre stage on the 2026/27 Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia schedule, hosting the fourth staging of Players Series South Australia.

The ground-breaking series, which showcases a unique format of men and women competing on the same course and vying for the same title, as well as separate junior and all abilities competitions, will return to Willunga from October 22-25.

Part of the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia and WPGA Tour of Australasia, the 2026 Players Series South Australia will continue the event’s connection with the McLaren Vale wine region and Fleurieu Peninsula which is home to a range of outstanding golf courses.

Defending champion Matías Sánchez will return to South Australia looking to become the first player to successfully defend a Players Series title.

Austin Bautista won the inaugural SA event in 2023, with Jack Buchanan becoming the first home state victor in 2024, a success that helped to propel him to the DP World Tour where he is touring the globe playing against the best in the game.

PGA of Australia’s General Manager of Tournaments & Global Tour Relationships Nick Dastey said: “We’re delighted to be returning to Willunga for another year with Players Series South Australia and continuing our partnership with a great South Australian in Greg Blewett as host.

“We’ve seen three editions so far at Willunga which has quickly established itself as a favourite stop on the Tour for our players.”

WPGA Tour of Australasia Chief Executive Officer Karen Lunn said: "The Players Series has become one of the standout concepts on our schedule and we're excited to return to Willunga to continue our 2026 season alongside the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia.

"The Fleurieu Peninsula provides a fantastic setting for our players, while the mixed-field format continues to showcase the very best of men's and women's professional golf competing together. We're looking forward to another great week for our members and for golf fans across South Australia."

SA Tourism Minister Emily Bourke said: “It is fantastic to see professional golf return to the world-class McLaren Vale wine region, bringing elite golfers to South Australia while showcasing the Fleurieu Peninsula to a national audience.

“Players Series South Australia continues to be a great addition to our state’s sporting calendar and gives us another opportunity through golf to highlight the outstanding tourism experiences available throughout the region.”

Member for Mawson Jenni Mitton said: “Our region has so much to offer, including world-class wineries, restaurants and beaches, and we look forward to welcoming the PGA Tour of Australasia and WPGA Tour of Australasia golfers and fans back to Willunga.

“The event has continued to grow and we’re excited to see another edition of this innovative tournament take place in October.”

Players Series South Australia will be broadcast on Fox Sports available on Foxtel and Kayo.
